This joyous, daylong event at NorCal Public Media brings together families, community partners, and dynamic literacy advocates — from beloved PBS characters to nationally recognized authors — for a joyful, inclusive literacy experience with more than 15 activities for children. Literacy Promise partners will be on hand to connect families with resources and tips for promoting reading at home.

A FREE Film Screening and Community Conversation

Join us at the Petaluma Library for a free screening of Ken Burns' latest documentary, Henry David Thoreau. Centered on themes of nonviolent resistance, environmental stewardship, and civic responsibility, this event invites you to connect Thoreau’s ideas to today’s world.
 
Stay after the film for a dynamic panel featuring author and activist Greg King, Annie Creswell of Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, and Environmental Scientist and Environmental Justice Advocate, Gail Seymour - exploring how this work is happening right here in our community.

Join us April 18th from 2 - 4pm at Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation for a free screening, community conversation and nature walk inspired by Henry David Thoreau, the new documentary from Ken Burns.

Explore themes of environmental stewardship, access to nature, and the search for an authentic life, followed by a panel with Jack Hines (Ear to the Wild) and local rancher Meilin Tsao. The afternoon wraps with a guided walk through Laguna’s native plant garden.
